 Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation (TES)

Therapeutic electrical stimulation

Therapeutic ES (TES) utilises electrical stimulation of very specific muscles to aid in rehabilitation in conditions such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and acquired brain injury (ABI). TES is used by the neuro physiotherapist to increase the activation of a specific muscle, to reduce weakness of the muscle, to use the physiological action of a weak muscle to stretch the stronger, tighter opposing muscle, to provide sensory feedback regarding the muscle action and to aid in rehabilitation of a more complex movement patterns.

EMG triggered electrical stimulation

TES can also be triggered by the user themselves using an EMG signal (EMG triggered stimulation).
